ROTTERDAM COMMITS TO EU SUSTAINABLE FUEL PROJECT

"The Port of Rotterdam Authority will support the European Commission's efforts to promote the use of sustainable fuels in the maritime sector and will consequently accelerate its own eco-friendly initiative."
In a statement, the Port said it strongly supports the 'Fuel EU Maritime - Green European Maritime Space' and actively encourages the use of alternative fuels, partly through its Incentive Scheme Climate-Friendly Shipping.

In addition, the Port said said fuels are exempt from energy tax at a national and European level, in order to encourage their use.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority takes into account the diversity and complexity of the future fuel mix in shipping and advocates clear objectives, as well as a roadmap with the possibilities for alternative fuels and shore power solutions per ship type and a clear timeline," it said.

Furthermore, it continues to support use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a "transition path" for the use of bio-LNG in the future.

"Together with our customers," it said, "we continue to scale up the production of sustainable alternative fuels.
