- HMM will use underwater robots to clean
- Agreement with South Korean TAS Global Co.
- South Korean shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine
(HMM) has signed an agreement with compatriot TAS Global Co.,
company specializing in the design and manufacture of robots
submarines used to clean the hulls of ships.
Announcing the agreement today, HMM explained that the goal is to
to use underwater means to clean the hulls
fleet units in order to both prevent the risk
accidents related to the use of employees to carry out
these activities are to help protect the oceans.
Remembering that many nations are banning cleaning in water
ship's hull due to the high risk of transfer
through the oceans of invasive aquatic species as well as
possibility of releasing cough paintings into the sea
harmful to the marine ecosystem, the South Korean company
underwater robots are designed to capture
encrustations of the hull and transfer them to
treatment on the ground through a filtering system that is
connected to their main body, thus avoiding the risks of
contamination of the marine environment.
- In addition, HMM predicts that the use of underwater robots
will reduce cleaning costs by up to 40%
hulls, thanks to a decrease in working hours, and
more effective cleaning without running into the
damage to the hull.
